At Bureche School, the National Honor Society is comprised of students with high academic achievement, community service, demonstration of values, leadership, and exemplary behavior.
We adopted the values training program Character Counts, which aims to strengthen character and build values in students: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.
At Bureche School, taking care of emotional well-being and building a safe environment for our students is essential. For this reason, we have a psychologist for each school, who works hand in hand with the Principal and the team of teachers.
At Bureche School, the curriculum is based on standards that allow our students to develop competencies and critical thinking skills that are fundamental to the challenges of education in the 21st century.
We are committed to developing their learning skills, through innovative methodologies and a standards-based assessment system, respecting the rhythm and learning style of each student.
At Bureche School we have an international certification in education, AdvancED, and an international curriculum, which allows our students to obtain the Colombian and U.S. High School diploma; 18% of our teachers are native, which favors the development of superior bilingualism.
We are also part of ACCAS (Association of Colombian Caribbean American Schools).
We prepare students to take international tests such as the SAT, which facilitates their entry to American universities. Additionally, we have contact with different international universities for students interested in studying abroad.
At Bureche School the education of our students is paramount. Through active learning methodologies, projects, and standard-based evaluations, we provide collaborative learning environments that enable comprehensive development.
We have a Human Development Department made up of five psychologists, who work in each school hand in hand with the Directors, monitoring and accompanying the students and their families. They also lead values training programs such as Character Counts, conflict resolution, bullying prevention, etc. In addition, we have a Learning Center, which provides evaluation and permanent support to all our students through an interdisciplinary team: speech therapist, occupational therapist, nutritionist, and special educators.
A fundamental aspect in the training of our students is awareness of social and environmental transformation. We have developed projects focused on strengthening this awareness in school children and youth. One of them is the Los Campanos Foundation, which is supported by the community in general and our students perform their social service hours there. Likewise, our science curriculum is based on areas that integrate the theme of environment and sustainability, which allow students to have clear positions and develop responsible
practices in the care of the planet.
We have an important selection of books in English and Spanish, and a librarian who suppor teachers with effective strategies to strengthen learning. We also have a membership with the Banco de la República library system and its 28 branches, and are registered with EBSCO, an online database of thousands of periodicals, ebooks, and videos that cover all academic disciplines.
Los Campanos Foundation arises from the initiative of Bureche School to create a space of support and care for the child population in the Altos de Simón Bolivar neighborhood of the city of Santa Marta, with the aim of offering training programs to the community in sports, ecology, and the arts, extending ties of solidarity and support to other communities. At this time, an average of 140 children are cared for.
